Doi Inthanon National Park is home to the highest mountain in Thailand. Covering 48,240 ha, the park encompasses pine forests, caves, rivers, limestone formations and rainforests. Doi Inthanon stands at an elevation of 2,565 meters, and has been nicknamed, The Roof of Thailand. The climate at the summit is often more like Canada than Thailand with temperature dropping to -8 degrees C in winter. Vachiratharn Waterfall, the most popular waterfall in Thailand, is located approximately 7 km from the mountains summit. Thundering water falls from one of Southeast Asia’s most impressive waterfalls. Bird watches will also enjoy this park as 362 species of birds call Doi Inthanon home.

History buffs can take a ride on the Death Railway which connects Thailand with Burma. Thousand of Allied POW’s and Asian Laborers were made to work on this bridge by the Japanese Army in 1943. The train goes over the famous Bridge on the River Kwai. The curved areas of the bridge are still the original portions. The Death Train follows the historical route that goes from Kanchanaburi to the Nam Tok Railway Station.

One of Bangkok’s most lovely temples is Wat Benchamabophit. Built in 1899, the name means, “The temple of the fifth king”. Commissioned by King Chulalongkorn, it is built of Carrara marble. Wat Benchamabophit is considered a royal monastery. It has a first class rank of Rajavaravihara. This is an honor that very few wats have. Ubosoth Hall, the main building, has 4 gables; the south gable displays the Wheel of Law. There are 52 Buddha images housed in Ubosoth Hall. Thailand’s 4 most important Buddha images, Lopburi, Ayutthaya, Dvaravati and Sokhothai, are all represented.

Outdoor lovers should try a sea canoe tour in Phang Nga Bay. Glide through mangrove forests and several caves (some can only be entered at low tide) limestone cliffs and secluded beaches. Guides allow tourists to stop and take photos, explore and cool off with a swim. Visit the Pearl Farm, stop for a bite on Panyee Island and snorkel with colorful fishes.

Nightlife in Bangkok rivals no other. While known for being wild, Bangkok is safe and known for fun. There are jazz clubs, an assortment of restaurants, several trendy dance clubs, pubs and lounges and traditional Thai dance shows. Just walking the lit up streets in Bangkok is an exhilarating experience.

If that is not enough, consider Bangkok’s Floating Market, attend a muay thai (kick-boxing) match, learn to meditate or enroll in a Thai cooking school. A Thailand holiday will leave one with a lifetime of memories.
